7 Movie Dialogues That Are Perfect for Mother’s Day 2024
Updated: Jun 11, 2024
Mother’s Day. It’s today, in case any of you have forgotten. I know, I know. It’s an honest mistake. We meant to have something ready by now, but somehow it just slipped our minds, because who is around us all the time asking us how we're doing? Or if we stay away, who calls us several times to ask if we've eaten anything?
Now, you might think I’m being sarcastic, but I’m really not. As Cynthia Ozick said, “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” So, although we love our mothers to the moon & beyond, and they know it too, it’s normal to take them for granted, not always nice but quite normal.
But this article isn't meant to take you on a guilt trip, it’s meant to be helpful. How? Well, grab a pen & paper and get ready, because I’m going to share with you 7 movie dialogues that could be the star of the card/letter you’re going to write to your mother. Trust me, sometimes all mothers need is to hear that we actually do love them, by either spending time with them or doing something for them which tells them we set aside time for them. And what better way to do it than a handmade card or letter?

4. “I need her to make me some cocoa and tell me that everything that is going badly in my life will sort itself out.”

But why movie dialogues?
IMPORTANCE OF MOVIE DIALOGUES IN OUR LIVES
A Medium article says, “Firstly, they distill complex ideas and emotions into concise and memorable phrases, making them easily accessible and relatable. These quotes often encapsulate universal truths, offering insights and perspectives that resonate with our own experiences. They can serve as reminders of important values, such as courage, love, and resilience, inspiring us to embody these qualities in our own lives. Additionally, movie quotes can provide comfort, motivation, and a sense of connection.”
Importance of Quotes
If you’ve read my article on my top ten inspirational quotes, the above quote might’ve sounded similar to you. As you know by now, quotes have immense power of storytelling to change our perspective for the better in a time-efficient manner.
Like I said, in that article, “Quotes are well-crafted words which put complex thoughts with crucial truths into a beautiful translation of language.”
Importance of Movie Dialogues or Quotes
Why then do movie dialogues tend to stay with us a bit longer than others? Firstly, like Laurent Kelly said in a WhatCulture article, “The role of dialogue henceforth is to reveal character and add layers to the drama.”
Secondly, because in general, people tend to remember stories better if they see it or practically do it themselves. Movies being an audio-visual medium, not only allow audiences to see & hear stories, but also allow them to experience them as if they were part of the narrative.
This experience, in some way, changes us in a way that would’ve if we too had gone through something similar. You know that feeling we get when we walk out of the theatre & know that we are just not the same anymore, even if only in a microscopic way?
The Medium article says, “Through compelling storytelling, thought-provoking themes, and captivating performances, films can evoke a wide range of emotions, challenge our perspectives, ignite our imagination, and inspire personal growth.”
So, movie dialogues are important & impactful af. (is that slang still in use?)
But why would they be perfect for Mother’s Day?
MOTHER’S DAY 2024
Mother’s Day is a day to honor and celebrate our mothers & their motherhood, in all their beautiful, messy, angry, annoyed-at-us glory. They love us just as we are, and they deserve a day where they can simply sit back & relax so that they can be treated like the queens they always were.
And while all days should be & are Mother’s Day, this one day is to make sure we say thank you to the one person who probably hears it the least.
Mothers Are Filmy
Now, I don’t know about you, but all mothers are quite filmy. If you don’t know what this beautiful Indian slang word means, Urban Dictionary defines it as “Hinglish slang referring to anything that seems like it could be from a Bollywood movie.” In other words, anything or anyone who is pretending to be like they’re in a movie (often used in the context of Bollywood movies), is termed as filmy.
Coming back to the point, mothers are filmy. Well, at least mine is. Whether it's the way she comforts me after a heartbreak or the way she used to yell at me to wake up when I was late for school. And what better way to celebrate mothers than to match that filmy energy?
And how to do that? Movie dialogues. Like the Medium article says, “Key lines and quotes from movies can be as profound and impacting as any stoic phrase passed down through history, these often stay with us throughout our lives and we call upon them in our times of need whether that is to find a super power or for the act of love.” And for this act of love, I have the perfect movie dialogues for you.
So today, I shared 7 movie dialogues with you that are perfect for Mother’s Day 2024, and for that last-minute card/letter you better get to right after reading this article!
The Medium article says about movie dialogues that, “They stir emotions with us, they allow us to hold onto that humorous remark or inspirational quote, they often help us get through those difficult times.”
So, this Mother’s Day 2024, buy your mom some flowers, surprise her with a home-cooked meal or a visit to a restaurant meal, but most importantly, write her that card/ letter. And not just any kind of card. Make it heartfelt. Make it the best card she’s ever seen in her entire life. One she will keep in her special drawer & look back on fondly.
Now that you are hyped up & armed with some of my favorite filmy movie dialogues/quotes about mothers, I think you’re all set to go write that card. What are you waiting for? Go!
But wait! Just read a little bit more.

And now to you, did these dialogues bring tears to your or your mother’s eyes? Which one is your favorite? Do you have any go-to dialogues you love to quote over and over again? I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below.
