10 Inspirational Quotes to Motivate You

Updated: Apr 29

Have you ever read a line that completely changed the way you think? The line that motivates you, inspires you, gets you out of a slump, makes you excited? The one that makes you rediscover the joy in beautiful wording? If you haven’t guessed already, I’m talking about quotes.

Quotes are well-crafted words which put complex thoughts with crucial truths into a beautiful translation of language.

I love quotes, not just the ones we constantly hear on social media & from our historical figures, but also the ones I find randomly in movies, music, books, from my friends & family. I put up quotes in my moodboards, above my desk, on my closet, on my phone’s screensaver, & lots more. I even like to write my favorite quotes in my notes app, so I can read them whenever I want, all in one place.

Sometimes all you need is a non-existent person to tell you what you really need to hear. Maybe it's something which inspires & motivates you, or gets you out of a slump, or even encourages you to keep believing & hoping in yourself and in life. Whatever your reason may be, quotes have immense power in helping us see ourselves in a different light & take us forward.

So, today I’m going to share 10 inspirational quotes with you that will motivate you to a positive mindset!

But before that, let’s briefly discuss why quotes are important?

Time-Efficient & Accessible

In our modern fast-paced lives, time & motivation are both a scarce commodity. This is because we rarely have time to pause, admire & just think. We are constantly running from one place to another, one meeting to another, & even one person to another.

So, as an Inspired by Elle article says, “Time is at a premium to most nowadays, so inspirational quotes bridge the gap between availability of time and the need for swift words to motivate success.”

We Love Stories

Research over the years has told us that when information is served to us in the form of stories, we are much more likely to fully listen, understand, retain, & recall it. Because when we listen to stories, our brain automatically starts trying to connect them to our own experiences, to be able to relate to them.

This is why doctors advise us not to check symptoms online. Because let’s be honest, how many times have we put ourselves through a panic attack because we self-diagnosed ourselves with cancer?

This is also why quotes work like magic to inspire & motivate us. Like Melissa Gouty says in a Literature Lust article, “Think of quotes like a shot of espresso for your psyche.”

Lead To Multiple Perspectives & Productive Actions

Besides time, easy accessibility & digestibility, quotes also inspire multiple thoughts & actions. What this means is that quotes often make us think, which in turn leads us to open our minds to multiple perspectives & ideas, as well as certain actions/behaviors that might change the way we look at life. This is probably the strongest reason for why quotes are so important in our lives.

So, let’s get to the point of this article!

  1. “You might get things wrong but nothing's wrong with you.” ~Mixtape

  2. “Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” ~Rainer Maria Rilke

  3. If your guilt creeps in, or if you’re worried that "wasting" this time will somehow make you poorer, try to remember the words of the Welsh poet William Henry Davies: "A poor life this if, full of care, / We have no time to stand and stare. " ……For we have been trained too long to strive and not to enjoy.” ~The Atlantic article How to Embrace Doing Nothing

  4. “Your current situation is not your fault, but it's your responsibility to heal from it.” ~Anonymous

  5. “Don’t let your past blackmail your present, to ruin your beautiful future” ~Dear Zindagi(2016)

  6. “If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.” ~Dolly Parton

  7. “Everything we know is stardust. So don't forget, you are stardust.” ~Before Sunrise

  8. “I make a point to appreciate all the little things in my life. I go out and smell the air after a good, hard rain. These small actions help remind me that there are so many great, glorious pieces of good in the world.” ~Dolly Parton

  9. “Make sure you leave room for magic.” ~Anonymous

  10. “Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost.” ~Om Shanti Om(2007) (Translation: “The movie is yet to reach its climax, my friend.” Or “The movie is still going on, my friend.”)

Do you feel inspired & motivated? Feeling that shot of espresso? Great!

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter whether the quotes you pick up are from a Renaissance writer, a freedom fighter, a music pop artist, or even an influencer, as long as they help you feel good about yourself; the ones that feel the most you.

Like the Inspired by Elle article says, “There is one consistent factor no matter how young or old you are, your successes and struggles, where you are from, or what you are facing right now, motivational quotes will spur you on, giving you the much needed impetus to face whatever life throws at you.”

Have you been feeling low lately? Like you need someone to get you out of your slump & inspire you to love life again. Someone who can show you the positive side again? While I wish I could be your cheerleader myself, what I can offer you are these quotes. They have helped me get out of slumps before, and keep me looking at the glass half full, and I’m sure they can help you too!
