The Transformation

A Storeys article said, “At the start of the 1980s, it was a grimy, run-down artery few bothered to visit — except those looking for a cheap lunch, a used car, a rebuilt transmission or the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health on Queen St. Then, unexpectedly, late in the first decade of the 21st century, Ossington, especially lower Ossington between Queen and Dundas, became hip. Very hip.”

This transformation didn’t just reshape the street; it reshaped its whole beat. A mix of historic rowhouses and traditional homes with modern twists, this area is a blend of business families, creative artists, and young professionals. This unique blend shapes the vibe of Ossington. But what is this vibe? Is it the café-hopping, thrift shopping vibe, or is it the nightclub and fine dining with wine vibe? Well, it’s both!

The Crowd

Ossington Strip attracts a diverse, creative, and inclusive crowd that not only loves working in a space that feels artistic and open, but also socializing with style. An example is how recent years have seen an increase in artists moving to this area, leading to a rise in casual workspaces and creative shopping experiences like The Dressing Room.

The Vibe

To be fair, Ossington holds a special place in my heart as I spent my first birthday in Toronto there, and suffice to say, I had the most perfect day. Nevertheless, Ossington is such a vibe because it shows what happens when art, community, culture, and curiosity grow together. It’s not just a neighbourhood, it’s a mood, rhythm, and for me, one of the first places that made Toronto feel like home.
