3 Reasons Why Fall Makes for the Perfect Reading Time
The changing foliage around us, the crunch of the leaves, the smell of the rain, pumpkin spice lattes, a warm blanket, and a good book. Now, that’s the recipe for the perfect evening for many readers across the globe. But what is it about fall that makes us reach for a book so instinctively? Here are 3 reasons why fall makes for the perfect reading time.
Rainy Fall Days Were Made for Reading
While reading a book on a beach or under a Christmas tree has its own appeal, reading by the window while the rain pours outside, with a candle burning beside you, is just something you cannot beat. It’s a feeling and an aesthetic that makes you want to read for hours. Like a Bookish Coffee Blog article says, “It’s called curling up with a good book, not sweating with a good book.”

The Holiday Release Wave
With the holidays coming up, you have books releasing left, right, and center. So, even if you aren’t thinking of books, the books will come to you, often with great holiday discounts, might I add. This, paired with the fall weather, makes for a situation you simply cannot resist.
Autumn’s Quiet Reset
Just as New Year’s is the official renewal of the calendar year, fall feels like the reset button, helping us renew ourselves before we get into the holiday spirit and then jump right into summer. Alice Vincent, in a Penguin article, rightly says, “September brings with it the opportunity to try something new, to get on with those unfinished tasks and mainline the to-read pile before the mania of Christmas sets in.” So, there’s just something about fall that makes us pick up that old book we abandoned and give it another try. And before we know it, we’re back in the game!

So, whether it is a comforting romance like Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, a spooky classic like Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, or a contemporary gem like Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, we can all agree that fall makes for the perfect reading time!
And now to you, what's one book you will be cozying up with this fall? I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments below.
